Finding a place to live in Greece is easier than you might think — but it helps to understand how the process works.

In most cities, you can find apartments through online platforms like Spitogatos, Xe.gr, or local Facebook groups. Landlords usually require one to two months’ rent as a deposit and prefer long-term contracts (typically 12 months).

Foreigners need a Greek Tax ID (AFM) to sign a lease legally, and payments are usually made via Greek bank account or IBAN transfer. If you’re applying for a visa, showing a valid rental contract may also be part of your documentation.

Tip: Start with short-term stays (Airbnb, serviced apartments) while you search for a long-term rental — especially in Athens or the islands during high season.

With the right preparation, settling into your new Greek home can be smooth and exciting.
